What is it like to work at some of the most coveted companies by designers, and how do you get hired by one?
German multidisciplinary creative Tobias van Schneider has put together an invaluable series, where he interviews leaders from renowned brands such as Spotify, Nike, Mother, InVision, EA, and more, to shed light on how one might become a designer in these companies.
In ‘How to Get a Job at X’, Pentagram’s Michael Bierut, Virgin Atlantic’s Michael Stephens, and Edenspiekermann’s Robert Stulle, are but a few of the famed creative professionals who offer you free career advice.
“I reply to every message I get, even the ones with misspellings,” reveals Bierut. However he has one pet peeve: “Most of the mistakes I see have to do with spelling or grammar. I know it’s not the most important thing in the world, but it drives me crazy.”
Nike’s creative hirer, Shine Thomas, details that design candidates who get turned down by Nike lack a curated portfolio. “Your portfolio should be your best work only and not everything you have ever designed!” reminds Thomas. Some candidates are also unsure of what they want to accomplish, while others show up unprepared for interviews.
